Weekly news week 2 2020. We started the week with a review of the cheapest handmade longfiller that we ever reviewed for Ministry of Cigars. That’s the Umnum Nicaragua Bond, and it would not surprise us if it wins the Value for Money award for 2020. The second cigar we reviewed is the Brun del Re 1787 Rainforest Short Robusto. This cigar supports the rainforest, as Brun del Re donates 20% of the proceeds to the protection of the rainforest.

The news

Scandinavian Tobacco Group and Royal Agio shocked the cigar industry last September. In a move that nobody saw coming, the companies released a statement about the pending sale of Royal Agio to Scandinavian Tobacco Group. With that move, STG would secure its position as the world leader in machine-made cigars. It would also mean that Royal Agio would no longer be a family-owned company after 115 years. This week the sale was concluded. The Wintermans family decided to share part of the proceeds of the sale with the employees. Some families have been working at Royal Agio for generations. Each employee gets a bonus, based on the years of employment.

The Netherlands saw the birth of Montana Alta Cigarros, a new distributor. It is expected that the company will start distributing Indian Motorcycles and Debonaire Cigars in the second quarter of the year. And they will also distribute Saga, Don Julio, and other cigars made by the Dominican factory De Los Reyes. More news from The Netherlands. The Dutch brand La Sagrada Familia is now available in Malaysia as well. Both the La Sagrada Familia Original and Maduro are available via distributor and retailer Cigar Malaysia. The cigars are made in Nicaragua by Joya de Nicaragua.

More weekly news for week 2 of 2020. The Slovakian distributor Dom Cigars is hosting a Dominican Cigar Night in Bratislava. With cigars from MAB, La Galera and La Flor Dominicana. And Didier Houvenaghel from DH Boutique Brands is hosting two vertical tastings in Kuala Lumpur. During those tastings, two La Ley cigars will be smoked in the presence of the blender and owner.
