Placencia to be distributed by STG. In Denmark that is. Both companies signed an exclusive distribution agreement for the country. Denmark is the home country of the Scandinavian Tobacco Group. The deal was announced on LinkedIn by Stijn Elbersen. He is the international sales & marketing handmade cigar brands for the Danish company.
The cigars of the Nicaraguan manufacturer were launched last week. That event took place in the Macanudo Cigar Shop in Copenhagen. Elbersen was there as a representative of STG. Plasencia sent their Regional Director Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Rodrigo Medina.
Plasencia is one of the largest cigar manufacturers when it comes to premium cigars. They own factories in Nicaragua and Honduras. Not only cigars with the Plasencia name but also cigars for others. All Honduran Rocky Patel cigars are made in a factory owned by the Plasencia family. Other big name brands produced by Plasencia are Maya Selva, Casa Magna Colorado, Oscuro and Domus Magnus, several Alec Bradley lines and many more.
Besides rolling cigars, the Plasencias are most likely the largest tobacco grower in Central America. With plantations all over Nicaragua and Honduras. In five generations the family built an empire. Jonathan Drew once called them an octopus, since they have their tentacles in everything. But he meant that in an endearing way.
Scandinavian Tobacco Group
STG is the largest cigar manufacturer in the world. The bulk is machine-made cigars for the ABC market. But as the parent company of General Cigars, they are also active on the premium cigar market. Their portfolio includes brands as C.A.O., Macanudo, and Don Tomas. For the American markets, they also produce the Dominican and Nicaraguan Cohiba and Partagas. Those can’t be found in Europe due to copyright.
Scandinavian Tobacco Group is also the largest retailer in the world. Cigars International, Cigars.com, Pipes & Cigars are their outlets. And recently they acquired Thompson, before firing all staff and closing the warehouse down. STG also has a wholesale company, Meier & Dutch. For that company, they have private labels made by several big names. But most of the private labels are made by A.J. Fernandez.
