New Zealand gets Ponce Cigars. Ponce Cigar Company is a brand new company that only debuted in the United States a month ago. And the brand is now entering New Zealand through the only importer and distributor of New World cigars in the country of all blacks. Canteros is that distributor. Grant Ovenden, founder & owner of Canteros told Ministry of Cigars how he noticed the brand. “I saw a hottie on social media smoking one of these cigars, I was curious, so I reached out to Ponce. That led to a small order.”

The inaugural cigar from Ponce is a 5½x54 Robusto Extra. The wrapper is Mexican San Andres and the binder American Broadleaf. The filler comes from the United States, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. A box contains 11 cigars and the cigars are made at MJ Frias Cigar SRL in the Dominican Republic.
Ponce Cigar Company is the brainchild of Frank Vasquez. Vasquez isn’t new to the cigar industry, but he is new as a brand owner. Before stepping into the game with his Ponce Cigar Company, Vasquez spent six years working at Corona Cigar Company. Corona Cigar Company is a retail giant with three outlets in Orlando and one in Tampa. The shops all come with a branded lounge. The ones in Orlando are a Diamond Crown Lounge, Drew Estate Lounge, or a Montecristo Lounge. The location in Tampa is a Davidoff flagship store.
MJ Frias Cigar Slr is a Dominican cigar manufacturer that has been around for 30 years. In the first decade, the company was producing cigars in Santiago. In 2002 the factory moved to Tamboril, where many other cigar factories are located.
