Habanos adds new Flor de Cano to regular production. The new Flor de Cano Elegidos is a 5×50 Robusto with the factory name Lirios. The cigar is totalmente a Mano tripa corta. That means that the cigars are totally handmade with short filler tobacco.
By introducing a new vitola for Flor de Cano, Habanos doubles the regular production sizes. The only other regular production size is the handmade, cedar-wrapped Petit Coronas. There are seven Flor de Cano edicion regional releases since the start of the edicion regional program. There has never been an Edicion Limitada for the brand.
To make a handmade short filler, tobacco is chopped. Then different tobacco is blended to create the right blend. With the help of a flexible mat, the short filler tobacco is then rolled into full-size binders. That forms a firm bunch. The rest of the process is the same as it would be with a longfiller.
All the tobacco for the Flor de Cano Elegidos comes from the Vuelta Abajo and de Semi Vuelta zones in Pinar del Rio. Pinar del Rio is the most famous province of Cuba when it comes to tobacco cultivation. By using these tobaccos and the tripa corta technique, Habanos creates a medium strength and body Habano, full of aroma and balance. Due to the tripa corta, more air flows through the cigar, speeding up the smoke process. That makes this a good cigar for a short smoking time.
The original release boxes contain ten cigars. These are slide lid boxes. But Habanos did mention that it is working on a display of fifteen cigars as well. That display is coming at a later stage.
