Episode 27: The Philip & Ferdy Cigar Show. Wine and cigars, it is sort of a controversial subject. There isn’t much discussion on cigars and champagne or sparkling wines. Most people admit that this is a pairing that works very well. The same goes for white wines and cigars. But when it comes to red wines the controversy starts. Some people love it, others say that the tannins in red wines clash with tobacco. And that the combination of red wine and cigars is not a good one. On the other hand, many players in the cigar industry are also wine connoisseurs. Both Philip and Ferdy are in the first group, the group of people that say that red wines and cigars do not match. Will this pairing change their minds? Watch the episode and find out.
Italian wines and a Dominican cigar
In Episode 27 of the Philip & Ferdy Cigar show the guys pair Italian wines from Montaribaldi with a VegaFina Fortaleza 2 Andullo. The Italian Azienda Agricola Montaribaldi is a family company. It’s located in the heart of the Lange Hills, in the town of Barbaresco. That’s in the Piedmont region of Italy. Piedmont is famous for Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera d’Alba wines, and other wine varieties. For the pairing, several different wines from Montaribaldi are paired with the cigar. The wines are provided by www.mitosg.com (discount code ELMONT2020).
The cigar is the VegaFina Fortaleza 2 Andullo. A limited-edition cigar that utilizes Andullo style fermented tobacco in the blend. That is tobacco that’s rolled in tight in a pod and fermented that way. It’s completely different from the traditional fermentation in pilones. The wrapper comes from Ecuador. The rest of the tobacco is Dominican and some of it is fermented Andullo style. The size of the cigar is 5⅖x54. Ministry of Cigars reviewed the cigar before.
The Philip & Ferdy Cigar Show airs on the Ministry of Cigars Facebook page every other Friday at 3 PM SGT, or UTC +8. But the videos are available to see after that as well.
