Cumpay adds Robusto Maduro. Maya Selva is adding a new cigar to the Cumpay collection. It is part of the Puro Nicaragua line and it comes with a dark Maduro wrapper. It is a naturally-fermented Nicaraguan wrapper that stays true to the collection’s unique character.
In early 1999 Maya Selva launched Cumpay. That took place after Nicaragua’s successful peace accords. With Cumpay, Selva is captivating the volcanic highlands notes of Nicaragua’s Jalapa Valley terroir. Back then Nicaragua was still one of the new and most promising cigar terroirs. She named the new line after the Tawakha Indian name for rolled tobacco leaf.
Nicaragua has over 50 volcanoes, including 5 active ones. But 7% of Nicaragua is water. The combination creates a perfect climate of heat and humidity. Combine that with fertile volcanic soil and you’ll have the perfect combination for high-quality tobacco. It delivers crop after crop of rich, corpulent tobacco with highly sought-after combustion properties.
The brand new Cumpay Robusto Maduro measures 4¾x50 and comes in 20 count boxes. The blend consists of a wrapper from Jalapa and a binder from Esteli. The filler is a blend of tobacco from Ometepe, Esteli, and Jalapa. The cigar will debut on TPE, May 12-14 in Las Vegas. It is expected that the cigars will get a global release soon after that.
