Crowned Heads announces Las Calaveras EL2021. The Nashville cigar company is releasing its 8th installment of the Las Calaveras Edición Limitada next month. As always, the Las Calaveras is a relatively small batch. This year there will be 1250 of each of the three sizes plus 1750 samplers. The samplers contain the three sizes plus an additional sampler exclusive vitola. A box contains 24 cigars.
The blend and sizes
The Las Calaveras Edicion Limitada 2021 features a new wrapper. A Sumatra Oscuro wrapper from Ecuador. It is the first time that Crowned Heads uses this specific wrapper. They managed to procure it through their manufacturing partners for Las Calaveras, My Father Cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua. The binder and filler are Nicaraguan
The three vitolas that will be for sale in boxes are a 6×48 Toro with the name Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2021 LC48. The 5×50 Robusto will have the LC50 name. And the 5¾x54 Robusto extra has, not surprisingly, LC54 as vitola name. The sampler exclusive size is a 6½x40 Petit Lancero
“We’re particularly excited about this year’s Las Calaveras releases as it marks a first for us in the series,” says Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a press release. “In fact, this is the first time we’ve utilized a Sumatra wrapper leaf in any project originating from our partners at My Father Cigars, and I think the resulting profile is not only an obvious change of pace but is also an amazing expression of Sumatra wrapper leaf.”
Since 2014, Crowned Heads releases Las Calaveras annually. It is a tribute to those who lost their lives in the previous year. The intention is to celebrate life and remembrance as opposed to a mournful symbol of death and loss. Each year, the initials of four individuals who lost their lives in the previous year are embossed on the four coins of the cigar.
