Cigar Bar KL officially opened. When Ministry of Cigars visited Kuala Lumpur in March this year, we visited Cigar Bar KL. It was a day before the soft opening, and we were the first to smoke a cigar in the bar. And drop ash all over the leather seats and floor. So it was fitting to go to the official opening last Friday.

Cigar Bar KL

Cigar Bar KL is founded by a few friends who share a passion for cigars. Amongst those friends are Juraj Kralj and Jay Walia. Kralj is an architect from Croatia, while Walia is a local TV host. And a cigar reviewer on youtube with his own Pura Vida channel. Ministry of Cigars collaborated with Walia for a review earlier this year. Cigar Bar KL was founded as the owners felt they could offer more than what the current lounges in Kuala Lumpur offers.

One of the specialized offerings is a curated pairing experience. Reasonable prices pairings for both experienced smokers and novice smokers. The prices range from RM55 to RM130 (€12 to €28,50). The cigar and drink are matched, dark chocolate and sea salt enhance the pairing. The pairings are:

  • La Flor De Cano Selectos & Glenfiddich 12 Years Old,
  • Por Larranaga Petit Corona & Glenfarclas 12 Years Old
  • Oliva Serie V Melanio #4 & The Macallan 12 Years Old
  • Montecristo #4 & Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva
  • Montecristo Edmundo & Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban
  • Cohiba Siglo II & The Balvenie 14 Years Old

the curated pairings

During the opening of Cigar Bar KL, we had the Por Larranaga Petit Corona & Glenfarclas 12 Years Old curated pairing experience with Jay Walia as our guide. And even though we are experienced smoker, we learned something new. The sea salt and dark chocolate created an extra level to both the whisky and the cigar. Walia told Ministry of Cigar that the pairing experiences will be updated every few months. It all depends on the availability of new exciting cigars, spirits, cocktails, and wines. The ‘Cigar Bar Selects’ series is their flagship product.

The location

Cigar Bar KL is located at the NAZA Tower in Platinum Park KL. The area houses embassies, great restaurants, and multinational companies. It is a short walk to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Yet just far away from the mall and the city center. A little pocket of tranquility as Walia called it.

The bar is designed by Juraj Kralj and has a contemporary European feel. During the day it’s really comfortable yet private. It offers space for meetings or for working remotely in a smoke-friendly environment. The goal of Cigar Bar KL is to blur the lines between work and leisure. And in the evening Cigar Bar KL transforms into a great place to meet friends over cigars and drinks.

The soft opening was a few months ago and the team has been getting used to the rhythm and flow of the place. Once everything was perfect, Walia and his co-founders were ready for the grand opening last Friday. They are planning master classes. Collaborations with both local and international brands are in the workings. But corporate events are also an option.

The humidor

The spacious walk-in humidor is stocked with both Cuban and Non-Cuban cigars. From the Cuban classics to the rarer Cuban brands. With regional editions from all over the world, when available. The selection of Non-Cuban cigars contains cigars from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Some well-known brands such as Rocky Patel, but also the Australian brand Nicoya. And again, the team behind Cigar Bar KL will keep rotating the selection, to keep cigar lovers excited about the variety offered.

So if you are in Kuala Lumpur, head to the NAZA tower. Drool over the Ferrari showroom on the ground floor, and then walk into Cigar Bar KL. Cigar Bar KL is now officially open. The address is Ground Floor, NAZA Tower Platinum Park, No.10, Persiaran KLCC,  50088, Kuala Lumpur. Opening hours are from Monday to Sunday, from 2 pm till midnight.
