CAO creates an homage to Nicaragua for select international markets. Later this year the brand will release a limited edition 6×58 Gran Toro. And it will only be available in a select few countries.
Even though the cigar is a homage to Nicaragua, and bears that name, it is not a Nicaraguan puro. Nicaragua is heavily represented in the filler. The tobacco comes from three major cigar regions from Nicaragua, Jalapa, Condega, and Esteli. But the filler also contains Honduran tobacco. The binder is Connecticut Broadleaf. And to finish the cigar, an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper is added. The cigar is made in Nicaragua though, at the facilities of General Cigars in Esteli.
This cigar is not a limited size of the CAO Nicaragua, which we reviewed earlier this year. The blend is different, but also the artwork is different. The cigar has a thin blue and white ring, representing the Nicaraguan colors. And there’s a white foot ring with the text homage to Nicaragua. The cigars are packed in white boxes of ten Gran Toros.
Scandinavian Tobacco Group, the parent of CAO, has announced that the cigar will be available in The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Spain. The cigar will also come to Asia, with Macau as a confirmed destination. How many of the limited edition cigars have been produced has not been revealed.
