Another sportsman going into cigars. Sports celebrities and cigars aren’t completely unfamiliar. Camacho has a cigar with a former football player and legendary coach Mike Ditka. El Artista works with Red Sox legend David Ortiz for the Big Papi cigars. Rocky Patel works with football star Ray Lewis, and with baseball player Gary Sheffield. The NBA is represented by Dominique Wilkins, Tiago Splitter, and Karl Malone. The last one works with La Aurora cigars. And that’s what the latest sports celebrity going into cigars is doing is well.
Ken “The Hammer” Hamlin is a former NFL player who played from 2003 till 2012. He played for the Seatle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Indiana Colts. During his career, he got himself a Padron 1964 and fell in love with cigars. The flavors, the aroma, the relaxation the cigar gave him, it was his new passion.
Hamlin visit the ProCigar Festival in the Dominican Republic and met Manuel Inoq. Inoq is the master blender for La Aurora, the oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic. That experience lit a flame in Hamlin, he wants a brand of his own. The duo worked together and after several attempts created a blend they both loved.
Even though it would have been easy to choose a name with a reference to Hamlin’s nickname The Hammer, they chose differently. The Arrival is the name of the new brand. It relates to always showing up on time and making your presence known. It’s something that Hamlin learned from his idol, Deion Sanders.
The blend is made with a mixture of Dominican, Brazilian, and Nicaraguan tobaccos. All wrapped in a Nicaraguan wrapper. The cigars are available in three sizes. A 5×50 Robusto, 6×50 Toro, and a 6×52 Grand Toro. For now, the cigars will only be available in the United States. There are no immediate plans to release the cigars on the international market. Since the NFL isn’t very popular outside the United States, the name Ken Hamlin won’t attract many international consumers.
