Like every year, Royal Agio, will release a limited edition Balmoral Añejo XO. This year it will be the Balmoral Añejo XO Edición Limitada 2018 Gran Perfecto FT. The cigar is a 5×60 Gran Perfecto and only 22,500 cigars will be made. The Balmoral Añejo XO Edición Limitada 2018 Gran Perfecto FT will come in ten count boxes.

The Balmoral Añejo XO Edición Limitada 2018 Gran Perfecto FT is made with filler tobacco from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Brazil. The binder is a Dominican Olor and for the wrapper Agio master blender Francisco Batista picked an Ariparaca wrapper from Brazil.

The cigars are made at the Royal Agio factory in San Pedro de Macoris, in the south of the Dominican Republic. And only nine teams of two persons were selected to produce the cigars, only the best of the best. The teams consist of a buncher and a roller, the buncher makes the bunches and wraps them in a binder. Then the cigars go into a press, and once they hold their shape the roller adds the wrapper. In this case with a flag tail. Usually the teams are a male and a female, since you need strength to make the bunches and finesse to apply the wrapper. After rolling, the cigars were aged for six months in a cedar clad aging room so all flavours in the tobacco could marriage.

Boris Wintermans, the fourth generation CEO of this family run company, explained that the Gran Perfecto shape is a tribute to an old Cuban vitola, but modernised by boosting the ring gauge up to 60. Wintermans said that Agio wanted to treat customers to a shape that’s nothing like any other vitola on the market right now, yet flavour wise don’t stray away from what people expect from the Balmoral Añejo XO series.

The cigars are to be launched soon. And we at Ministry of Cigars can’t wait to try them.
