A new collecion Vintage in Spain. For the 9th time the Spanish Habanos distributor Tabacalera is releasing a special Collecion Vintage jar. For these releases, Tabacalera is using cigars that have been aging for several years and sells them in jars with a vintage Partagas look from the 1920s.

The jars are made in Toledo, Spain by Talavera de la Reina. The Toledo area is known for decorative porcelain and pottery. Talavera de la Reina is a long time producer for jars for Habanos. Just as the Sevilla region, that has an annual jar release in the Sevilla series. The Sevilla series share the same style of jar and design, but with red decorations instead of blue. Each release of the collecion vintage is limited, this year there are 2000 jars available which is double the number of the El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme Collecion Vintage.

The cigars

For this year, Tabacalera went with Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1. Each jar contains 19 of the 5⅝x46 cigars. The cigars are regular production, yet they come with age. According to Tabacalera, these cigars are pre-2016. That means that the cigars are a minimum of five years old. This is ironic since Juan Lopez is only available on the Spanish market since 2018. The jars sell for 285 euro.

Each year Tabacalera is changing the brand and the vitola used for the Collecion Vintage. In the past they went for the El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme, Romeo y Julieta Churchill, Punch Punch, Partagas 898, Trinidad Robusto Extra, H. Upmann Magnum 50, and the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.1.

Collector’s item

Since this is a project from Tabacalera, and not from Habanos, these jars with the Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 1 will only be available in Spain. But as with any special release, there are serious Habanos collectors that are willing to pay more than retail to get their hands on a jar. Especially collectors in China, Hong Kong, and other Asian countries.
